Stamp sequential page numbers on a PDF for legal filing

Completely free

Checking your access…

AllFreeTool is a free online PDF Bates numbering tool that stamps every page with a unique sequential identifier. You choose a prefix, a starting number, the number of digits, the corner where the stamp sits and the font size, and the tool writes the number into the footer or header of each page. The whole job runs in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.

It suits legal document sets, contract bundles, discovery productions, or any collection of pages where each one has to be cited unambiguously. The numbers are burned into the page content rather than being a viewer annotation, so they appear in print, in exports, and on any machine that opens the file later.

Common questions

What is Bates numbering used for?+

It is a way of giving every page in a document set a unique, predictable identifier, most often a prefix plus a number such as ABC-000001. Legal teams, contract bundles and disclosure productions use it because a page can then be cited unambiguously even when the set is huge.

How do I choose the starting number and format?+

You set the starting value and the prefix in the panel, and the digit count controls whether numbers are padded with leading zeros. Continuing an existing set is a matter of typing the prefix and the number where the last volume stopped, so the sequence stays unbroken across files.

Where does the stamp appear on the page?+

You choose the corner: bottom right, bottom centre, bottom left or top right. The font size control lets you keep the stamp discreet on a busy page or make it clearly legible on a sparse one, and the preview shows the result before you commit.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?+

No. The numbering is written into the document locally in your browser, with no network request at any point. That keeps confidential and privileged material on your own device, and nothing is stored once you close the tab.
