Inspect the GIF header, palette and each frame's delay, offset and transparency

Completely free

Checking your access…

AllFreeTool's GIF Parser reads the structure of a GIF file and shows what is inside: the format version, the logical canvas, the global palette, the loop count, comments, the frame count and the total duration. It is free, runs in the browser with no install or signup, and needs nothing more than dropping a file on the page. The summary panel answers most questions before you ever scroll down to the frame list.

Every frame is listed with its position and size, its delay, its disposal method, whether it declares a transparent color, its local palette and the size of its compressed data, together with a thumbnail for the first 60 frames. That makes it quick to diagnose an animation that loops forever, plays too fast in one app, or shows a transparent box over a background. Nothing is modified, and the bytes never leave your device.

Common questions

Is the GIF parser free to use?+

Yes. There is no account requirement and no cost, and the tool only reads the file, so nothing is modified or stored. It works offline once the page has loaded.

Why does my GIF ignore the loop count?+

Looping is stored in a Netscape application extension, not in the header, and some encoders omit it, which makes viewers play once. The count also means extra repeats: 0 loops forever, while 1 plays the animation twice. If the block is missing, the parser shows no loop count, and you can rebuild with a loop setting of your choice.

What do the disposal methods mean?+

0 and 1 leave the canvas as it is for the next frame, 2 clears the frame's area back to the background, and 3 restores what was there before the frame was drawn. Disposal 2 explains the flickering or blank gaps some GIFs show, because each frame starts from a cleared canvas.

Why is the total duration shorter than what I see?+

The total is the sum of the stored delays, in hundredths of a second. Browsers and players often clamp delays below 0.02 seconds up to 0.1 seconds, so a file full of tiny delays plays noticeably slower than the arithmetic suggests. Compare the computed total with the frames' delays to spot that case.
