Microphone TestNEW
See your microphone input level and confirm it is picking up sound
Checking your access…
AllFreeTool is a free online microphone test that opens your microphone in the browser and shows a live input level, the peak level reached, and a rough decibel estimate. You can also make a short recording, play it back to check the quality, and see a list of the microphones the system can offer. Everything is handled locally, so no audio is ever uploaded.
It is the quickest way to find out whether a microphone is really working before a meeting or a recording, to compare one microphone against another, or to check for background noise that will end up in your audio. The recording and playback step catches problems such as low volume, distortion, or a muted input that a level meter alone can miss.
Why use Microphone Test on AllFreeTool?

Watch the input level move as you speak, along with the peak and a decibel estimate.
Record and Playback
Capture a short sample and play it back to judge the real quality of the microphone.
Device List
See which microphones the system exposes and pick between multiple inputs.
Audio Stays Local
Recording and analysis happen in the browser, so no sound is ever transmitted.

Common questions
Why does the tool ask for permission?+
Browsers only release microphone input after you explicitly allow it, so the page prompts you the first time. If nothing happens, check the permission icon in the address bar and make sure the microphone is not muted at the system or hardware level.
How do I use a different microphone?+
The available devices list shows every input the system reports, so you can switch between them from the dropdown. Some browsers only reveal the device names after permission is granted, which is why the list may be empty until the test has started once.
Is my voice recorded and sent anywhere?+
No. The recording is captured by the browser recording API into memory on your own device and is played back from there. Nothing is transmitted, and once you leave the page the recording is gone, so you can test a private conversation without any concern.
What if no microphone is detected?+
The tool reports that no usable device was found, which usually means the microphone is disconnected, muted in the operating system, or being used by another application. Check the input device in your sound settings and close any other program that might be holding the microphone open.
