Typing TestNEW
Measure your typing speed in WPM with an accuracy breakdown
Checking your access…
AllFreeTool is a free online typing speed test. You get a random passage and a countdown, and as you type the tool measures your words per minute, your accuracy, and how many characters you have entered correctly, highlighting the mistakes as you go. When the time is up you get a clear result summary. Everything runs in your browser, so no keystroke is ever transmitted.
It suits improving your typing speed, checking your accuracy after an injury or a switch to a new keyboard, or comparing two keyboards head to head. The accuracy figure is as informative as the raw speed, because fast typing with many errors is not actually faster once you go back and fix them.

Common questions
How is words per minute calculated?+
The standard convention is used, where five characters count as one word, and the total is scaled to sixty minutes. On a one minute test this is simply the character count divided by five. Because the passage is in English, five characters is the usual proxy for a typed word.
What does the accuracy percentage mean?+
It is the share of the characters you entered that were correct, which is calculated across the whole passage. A low accuracy means you are making many errors even when the speed looks good, and fixing those is usually worth more than pushing the speed further.
How long can the test run for?+
You pick the duration yourself from the options offered, with the countdown showing the time remaining as you type. Longer rounds tend to give a truer picture, because the first few seconds include a warm-up effect.
Is my typing uploaded anywhere?+
No. The whole test runs inside the page with no network request, so the text you type and the passage you are copying never leave your device. There is no account, no saved history and no usage limit.
